Fern is built to be usable by every support worker in your team — including learners with English as a second language, learners with low digital literacy, and learners using assistive technology.

Our commitment

We target WCAG 2.1 AA compliance across the learner experience and the admin platform. Where we fall short of that bar, we want to know — please tell us.

What we do

• Minimum 16px body text and 44×44px touch targets on every learner-facing page. • Colour-coded information always pairs with icons or labels — never colour alone. • Flat navigation on learner pages — no dropdown menus that hide essential actions. • Pinch-to-zoom is never disabled — learners may zoom up to 5x. • All content is keyboard-navigable and works with screen readers.

Designed for ESOL learners

Lessons use plain English, short sentences, and consistent layouts. Critical instructions are reinforced with icons. Quizzes use the same vocabulary as the lessons they assess.
